Discovery: LP

The debut album of band Discovery, ironically titled LP, is a driving cascade of synth and drum pads. A joint venture between Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot’s Wes Miles, LP is the sonic equivalent of a firework show. Innovative and customary in equal measure, Discovery’s first album excels at blending electronic effects-work with pop showmanship. Borrowing heavily from the last 30 years of the R&B trick bag, LP’s lovelorn lyrics and playful sentiments make it is as much of a throwback as it is a foray into the avante-garde. Ra Ra Riot and Vampire Weekend have made careers out of transcending genre, adeptly playing with the limits of listeners’ musical sensibilities. That style resonates throughout LP. Top tracks include: Osaka Loop Line, I Want You Back (Jackson 5 Cover), So Insane, and Swing Tree. Links below. Cheers.
