Amadou & Mariam: Dimanche A Bamako (Sunday in Bamako)

The lives of Amadou Bagayoko and Mariam Doumbia tell a story that sounds more like movie material than mere biography. Both born blind and in the poverty of former French West Africa they both had an unquenchable passion for music. Playing individually with the biggest names in the African blues scene, they met at the National Institute for The Young & Blind. Since that meeting Amadou & Mariam have been partners in both music and marriage ever since. Now the couple plays consistently at the international lever and enjoy loud critical acclaim. Sadly their music has not taken a strong hold in America. It figures. Playing everything from Afro-pop, and horn driven funk to Cuban Son and Delta Blues, Amadou & Mariam have incredible range and talent. 40 years in music will do that. Here is a taste of their definitive style: at times driving, at others, relaxing, always awesome. Links below. Cheers.
